MTU — the high-speed engine brand of Rolls-Royce Power Systems – builds some of the most respected diesel engines in the marine and power generation world. Its line-up is organised into engine series: the Series 1600, Series 2000 and the larger Series 4000.
The Series 2000 is a common rail engine and a market leader for fast vessels – high-speed ferries, search-and-rescue craft, patrol boats, crew transfer and windmill service vessels, and yachts – available in V8 through V16 configurations with outputs spanning roughly 720 to 1,939 kW. It’s also widely used for onboard and standby power generation. The Series 1600 is a smaller engine used heavily in generator sets and industrial applications.
Because the Series 1600 and 2000 run Bosch common rail fuel systems, the injectors, high-pressure pumps and valve sets are central to keeping these engines running – and on a vessel or a critical genset, a fuel system failure caused by a sub-standard part is simply not an option.
